Biography:

Manu Malek is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T) Bell Laboratories (since 1981), and an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Stevens Institute of Technology (since 1983).

He received a Ph.D. degree in EE/CS from UC Berkeley in 1970. Since then he has held various academic and industrial positions including Chairman of the EE Department at Shiraz University in Iran, Visiting Professor of EE at the Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby; Visiting Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque (USA); Senior Engineer with Hughes Aircraft Company, Canoga Park (USA); Manager of the Special Services Standard Designs Engineering District at Bellcore, and Supervisor of Special Studies at AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Dr. Malek is the author, coauthor, or editor of six books, and the author or co-author of over fifty technical papers in the areas of control systems, communication networks, network operations and management, computer communications, and optimization. He is a fellow of the IEEE, was the chairman of the Computer Society Chapter of the IEEE New Jersey Coast Section in 1982-84, and was the Network Management editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications in 1988-91. He is now Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Network and Systems Management (a quarterly journal published by Plenum Press).

His present areas of interest are telecommunication network operations and management, and networked computing.
