SUBJECT: Student Volunteers for the Symposium

I would like to ask for your help in the running of the 1996 Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems which will be held in Ames August 18 through the 21st. The Symposium will include over 400 papers and authors from all disciplines in Circuits and Systems. This is a great opportunity for you as a graduate student to meet and mingle with some of the leading researchers in various fields of Electrical and Computer Engineering during the symposium. There is also potential for making future employment connections. You will be part of the longest running IEEE conference and provide a valuable professional service to your Department, University and the IEEE.

All student volunteers will be entitled to a complementary student registration* for the entire Symposium. This includes:

There are several tasks that the organizing committee needs help with. These tasks are:

  1. Managing the sessions. This entails helping the session chair with running the audio-visual equipment and making sure the authors are on schedule and helping with the location and placement of posters in the case of poster sessions. There will be one person needed for each lecture session and two people for each poster session.

  2. Working at the registration counter. This involves assisting the attendees with their registration needs, handing out badges and collecting their final manuscripts with the signed copyright forms.

  3. Working at the transportation desk. This involves the help with the coordination of the transportation of our guests from/to their hotels and the Scheman building (site of the conference) and from/to Des Moines airport.

  4. Driving the ISU vans from/to their hotels and the Scheman building (site of the conference) and from/to Des Moines airport (due to insurance requirements, for this task you must have a valid US driver license and be on an RA or TA appointment at the time of the conference).

If you are interested in volunteering, please register by filling out the student volunteer registration form and send it to the address specified. Or, if you prefer, you may e-mail the information to mwscas96@iastate.edu. Please register as soon as possible. There are a limited number of complementary registration packages available and they will be awarded to on a first come first serve basis.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me ( Marwan M. Hassoun, e-mail: marwan@iastate.edu) or the local arrangement chair Professor Ken Kruempel, e-mail: kruempel@iastate.edu.

* Students that are presenting papers at the symposium are NOT exempt from paying the student registration fee. However, we would appreciate any help you can provide. Please fill in and send this part of the volunteer registration form.
